The Death of an Icon: Michael Jackson 1958-2009
[Teen Wolf] Stiles eyes
Today the world lost a legend, a man who inspired so many of us in our love and passion for music. I could wax poetic about this situation, drone on and on about sadness and such things, but I don't think it's warranted in this situation. We aren't alone in our grief, not even a little bit, and if anything we should be celebrating an amazing career.

Michael Jackson was an icon. Whether you loved him or hated him, he played a role in the lives of every modern pop musician and every modern music fan. I'm sure many of us can remember being little kids, listening to the Thriller album or trying to learn the dance moves from our favorite music videos. From Billie Jean to Dangerous to Black or White, there's no end to the hits or the memories or the moments that these songs bring to mind.

Putting aside the controversy and the eccentricity of his later life, we have to look at all the good things. All the pleasure brought to us by this mans music. He was a human being with a family, he was a father with children, he was an artist who's talent has been sampled a thousand times over. He was a lot of things, both good and bad, but I personally know that he will live on for many many years to come through his art. That is what is important. That is what is to be valued here. That is what we get to walk away with, and we should be thankful.

Talent never dies. Talent carries on, forever, infinitely. Through records, through videos, through fondness. So for anyone who grew up loving Michael Jackson, for anyone who owns a glittery white glove and a red zippered jacket, for anyone who likes to dance along to Beat It while alone in front of the bedroom mirror? Raise your glass and say a little toast to MJ, because without him? Music wouldn't have been half as fun.

Rest in peace, MJ, and all of you stay true, even through the hard times,

Rock Life

Hey all!

So it’s been awhile since you’ve heard from us, but rest assured we are here! Things are a bit hectic, and with the summer tour season about to kick off, we figured we’d get our asses into gear! Our website is currently down being revamped and we’re in search of new bands, but we’re still here kicking it on LJ! We also have a new blog and we’re looking to start a pod cast, so stick with us kids!

Tonight I have a couple of topics to toss out there about what’s been going on in the music scene and with Rock Life. First of all I want to go back a few nights to an incident that happened on Twitter that we’re fondly referring to as Gokey Gate ‘09.

For those of you who do not watch American Idol, Danny Gokey was a contest this past season who made it to the top three. He was sort of the self righteous religious type, which is totally fine, but he was a bit of an odd duck. Odd in that you could never tell if he was sincere or bullshitting you. Another of the contestants (who you’ve probably heard of unless you live under a rock, or maybe in space) was Adam Lambert, the seasons runner up. It was never a secret that Adam is gay, at least not to anyone who paid attention, and this was vastly overlooked for his incredible talent.

Except, of course, apparently by some of Gokey’s family who posted some not great things on the internet. Needless to say the fans took it and ran with it, hash tagging left and right about Danny Gokey being a douche and blowing up Twitter, Google, and LiveJournal. We were right there in the midst of all the insanity, watching it all unfold, and while I have to say I don’t know Danny Gokey personally and can’t attest to his level of doucheyness, I can say one thing:

Social networking is doing amazing things for music.

Adam Lambert fans, Kris Allen fans, people who didn’t know what the hell was going on, they all united in something and got as far as the MTV News with it. It was nice to just see that level of passion in something, that amount of outright love of music and an artist, and it just goes to show you that maybe the scene isn’t dead after all!

Now that we have the particulars of Gokey Gate out of the way, I had a few more things to say before I stop boring everyone!

This summer there are a lot of shows and great tours coming through! I know I will be at a few, and I’d like to meet anyone who reads this blog or who has an interest in Rock Life! Things will hopefully pick up once we relocate to our new city and headquarters (it’s a surprise!) and we’ll be revamped and ready to open by the end of the year!

So where do you come in? It’s simple! Rock Life is going to need street teamers all across the country to help us promote our bands, artists, and merchandise! Don’t miss your chance to be part of things! So if you’re going to be at Warped Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio, or the American Idol tour in Cleveland, Ohio, let me know here!

There may be more shows coming up for Rock Life this summer, so stay tuned, and keep in touch! Got questions? Got comments? Leave them here! Anything and everything goes!

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter under RockLifePromo!

Until then, stay true!

An Update From Sammah
So, I hate to type this out, but Fletch has decided to part ways. It's sad to see them split as a band, but look forward to side projects in the future! We'll let you know more once we know more.

As it is, we are currently looking for one-two more bands to fill their slot on Rock Life. If you any suggestions, please, by all means let me know!

I guess that's all I really have to offer for the moment guys.

Don't forget to buy one of our awesome bracelets! Just $5!

It's way too early to be doing this.
G'morning, babydolls! It's Shell, and it's six in the AM here in Philly because new college grad + no job yet + still living at home until job is procured with mother who thinks suffering is motivation = awake at insane hours that no human being has any right to be awake at with nothing to do but blog and bulletin. I give you a bulleted list, so you can browse through at your leisure:

+ Random complaint - So some updates from the world of Rock Life land. Sammy-dear just got our flyers to take with her to Warped, promoting Fletch and Cash Cash, only to find out that they were far more pixelated than I was led to believe would occur upon printing. I could blame myself for this, but it's six frigging AM and I'm in no mood to take responsibility for anything, so I'll blame it on FedEx/Kinkos lack of alert that I should have uploaded a higher resolution image.

+ Warped Tour update - Sam and Adrayn will be at the Warped in Cincinnati on July-30th-don't-quote-me-on-that-it's-pretty-early, and I believe will still be at the Cute Is What We Aim For show in Covington, KY on August 13. I'll have to check in with her on that to be sure, but go say hi to her if you see her.

+ TAI is definitely fast, and probably easy - Anyone not living under a rock knows that The Academy Is...has posted two new songs on their MySpace from their upcoming album Fast Times At Barrington High, "About A Girl" and "Summer Hair Forever Young." Both are really good, the whole group has come a long way since The Academy, so if you have in fact been living under a rock I suggest going on over to their MySpace and giving them a listen. Fast Times is set for release in stores on August 19 and can be preordered now at Fueled By Ramen. (MySpace: theacademyis)

+ Departure - Okay, eighties kids. You know who you are, and you can't lie to me and say that during your high school years you didn't think you were amazingly cool because you were rocking out with your friends to Backstreet Boys and N*Sync. For those of you who can freely admit this, I strongly suggest checking out Jesse McCartney's recent album Departure. Yes, he's a Disney star. Yes, he has embarrassing things in his past, like his awful hair while he was part of Dream Street. But damn, the boy has come a long way in his music career and he's done well. Go to his MySpace (jessemccartney) and give a listen to the song "Leavin'.

+ Rotation - Also out on shelves now, and it has been for a little bit, is Cute Is What We Aim For's Rotation, another CD we've been listening to on repeat because Shaant's voice makes us want to snuggle him, amongst other things. Their MySpace has a song from it up, "Practice Makes Perfect," and the CD is available in stores and from Fueled By Ramen. So go give that a listen. (MySpace: cuteiswhatweaimfor)

+ Items - So about seven more shirt designs available in our store, some of the last of the simpler vector designs before I start putting together some more complex images and getting them out, plus a few old ones. Here are some pics of what we've got, check it out:

+World Tours, Not Wars Tee (white or black)
+I Rock Socks Tee (various colors)
+Jack of Blades Tee (various colors)

+ROCKBANDS 1" Silicone Style 1 Wristband

Also, if anybody's in the Philly area, or wherever really, looking for somebody who's got nothing better to do but be bothered online, you can check out my lil' ol' MySpace and drop me a friend request or hit me up on AIM under the screen name dispadaferisce. I'm probably not doing anything but refining a resume and doing some web design work.

New Item: ROCKBANDS Ultra Wide Wristbands

So, we've got a new item at the Love Me Or Leave Me / Rock Life Promotions webstore!

ROCKBANDS are ultra wide, 100% industrial strength silicone wristbands. They're 8 inches around (sized for a teen to an adult), 1/4 inch thick, and at nearly 1 inch wide are much larger than standard rubber and silicone wristbands.

Style 1 is now available, the first of several we plan to create, sporting the phrase "love me or leave me" and our Love/Hate logo.

Check it out at our BigCartel shop! Our initial shipment is pretty small to test the waters, so once they're gone there will be a short wait for our next shipment, as well as for our second style.
